Volunteering in your area
Our volunteer training programme is unique among current resettlement countries.
We equip community volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to assist newly-arrived refugees with the challenges of early integration. After successfully completing the course, up to four volunteers are assigned to support each refugee family/individual for the first six months in their new community.
The volunteers assist with:
- setting up homes
- linking with Work & Income, schools, ESOL courses, local GPs
- orientation to local community (facilities, public transport)
- ongoing support (hospital appointments, mail, Work & Income appointments, social visits)
- alerting our professional staff to special needs or issues
